Camp Royalty

Camp Royalty is phase 1 of a 3 phase program that offers participants unique experiences within the agriculture domain. Participants will gain practical management and leadership skills. The objective is to learn about career options within agriculture and encourage students to pursue a 4 year college degree in related disciplines. Fields include but not limited to: Agriculture, Natural Resources, management, soil conservation and range conversation.

Camp Royalty will be partnering with the USDA to offer the following activities to participants: Tie Down Roping, Basketball, Team Roping, Swimming, Arts and crafts, Barrel Racing, Golf, Dance, Fishing and Horseback Riding.

King Pickett

King Pickett is a 23 year old Professional Calf Roper with a degree in Business Agriculture. He had a natural love for sports from an early age with his father, Charles, being a professional golfer and sports' lover.  His passion was quickly and naturally noticed due to his athletic ability. King started roping at the early age of 6 and became a Professional Roper by the time he was 18. He currently devotes his free time coaching the local youth and building their calf roping skills. King will help navigate campers towards their agriculture interest.

Cory Solomon

Cory Solomon is a 32 year old Professional Calf Roper that has qualified for the National Finals Rodeo 9 times. He comes from a family of hard workers and rodeo competitors. His father, Larry, operated the farm at Prairie View A&M University (his alma mater), and mother, Caralita, currently works in the agriculture department at the school in Prairie View, Texas.  When Cory is not rodeoing he designates his time giving back to the youth. Cory will support campers by advising, guiding, and providing lessons geared toward agriculture and calf roping.

Sasha Wright

Sasha Wright is an English Language and Reading teacher at a Texas Middle School. She became a certified teacher at the age of 22 and is a graduate of Jackson State University. She enjoys working with children and currently coaches a dance team. Sasha is certified in ELAR 4-8, SpEd K-12, and ESL K-12. Her portfolio includes being a program director for the YMCA, Educational Consultant PK-3, and teaching varies grades from Kindergarten to High School. Sasha will supervise daily operations and administrative needs of Camp Royalty.
